Costs
Cost estimates for the Placer Parkway range from $600 to $650 million. This 2005 estimated range includes environmental mitigation, right-of-way, design, and construction costs for the four-to six-lane facility. At this time, there is no State or federal funding to build the Placer Parkway. Currently, a regional funding program is the only funding source for the Parkway. The South Placer Regional Transportation Authority’s (SPRTA) regional transportation impact fee program is providing partial funding for several regional transportation highway and transit projects. This fee program is expected to collect approximately $10 million, over a 20-year period, for the Placer Parkway. Although the Placer Parkway has become an increasingly pressing transportation need for the area; the transportation funding situation for new projects is grave. Traditional State and federal sources have not kept pace with needs. This situation has spurred interest in exploring other more creative funding options. These options include a county-wide sales tax, more developer contributions, and toll road facilities. For more on the Placer Transportation Funding Strategy, see www.FixPlacerTraffic.org.
